Intro to Newspaper Design

1.What is your favorite newspaper front page? Why?

To me I really like the Brownsville Texas because the cover has a photo of sidewalk art and I think it is really cool.

2.What is your favorite headline from that newspaper? Why are you interested in it?

concrete canvas because it has a cook sidewalk art in it

3.How many stories are on the front page of your favorite?

There is eight stores on my newspaper.

4.What do you notice that all newspaper front pages have in common?

All newspapers have a dominant photo on the cover.

5.What are things that vary on the front pages of different newspapers?

Some newspapers have many stories on the cover others only have one dominant photo.

Lenses and Photography Vocabulary

I would use a telephoto lens on a football game to really zoom in on my subject

I would use a prime lens on a basketball game to get good detail on a photo

I would use a wide-angle lens on a marching band show so that I could fit all the members on the photo

Depth of Field-the range of distances along the axis of an optical instrument, usually a camera lens

Light-How much light is in a photo

Shadows-The amount to darkness on a photo

Diffusion-a soft-focus effect resulting from placing a gelatin or silk plate in front of a studio light or a camera lens

Exposure-The amount of something on a photo

Aperture-an opening or a hole

 Shutter speed-speed

ISO-used to indicate the light sensitivity of the camera to make the photo bright or dark

Prominence – the “newsworthiness” of an individual, organization or place.

Impact – the effect or consequence of an event on the audience.

Conflict – the meeting of two or more opposing forces. These forces can be physical, emotional or philosophical.

Human Interest – the drama the surrounds people involved in an emotional struggle.

Novelty – the attraction people have to unusual things and events.
